Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at ssmith@earlybranchespsychology.com or 862-228-9011 if you cannot find an answer to your question.

I see children from birth to 12 years old.

This depends on several factors including whether we are meeting in-person or via telehealth. If in-person, I require a caregiver to be on site for the whole session whether they are in the room for the session or not. If meeting via telehealth, I require the caregiver to be easily accessible to the child if the caregiver is not needed in front of the screen with the child. This also depends on the treatment we select for your child. Some treatments require the caregiver to be in the room for the entire session and others for only a short period of time.

Currently, I do not accept insurance though I hope to in the future. If requested, I can create a superbill for an individual to submit to their insurance for reimbursement. I am able to provide you with billing codes prior to starting treatment so you can contact your insurance to find out how much would be reimbursed.

The duration of each session is typically 55 minutes long. The length of treatment depends on the treatment we decide is best for your child and family and can range from 3 months to over a year. The frequency of which we meet can depend on your families' and my own availability, and treatment recommendations.

I am currently licensed in New Jersey and Utah. I am working on obtaining my license in Pennsylvania and New York. My hope is to see clients virtually from Pennsylvania and New York once I receive those licenses. I am also able to accept clients from Utah to see virtually.

I recommend scheduling a free 15-minute phone consultation so you have the opportunity to ask questions. Together we can decide if it seems like a good fit. If so, we can schedule an initial assessment session. I always encourage the families I work with to discuss any concerns they have with me about goodness of fit over the course of treatment if they have them. Finding the right therapist for your child is what matters most.

Not many providers are trained in evidence-based practices for children 4 years and under. This is a skillset I have fostered over the course of the last 8 plus years. I am also trained in evidence-based treatments that are specific for young children which makes me uniquely equipped in providing support and hope for families with children ages 0 to 12 years.

It can be tricky as a caregiver to know if your child needs treatment and what kind to seek. What I tell caregivers is to determine if they feel their child could be more successful in any environment and to trust their "gut!" Parent intuition is something every caregiver has and my job is to help you learn to trust your own. Schedule a consultation call and I can help you determine if your child may benefit from my support.

Play is an important part of a child's development. It is the lens through which we see and understand a child's world. Because of this, it is incorporated into all of the treatments I provide.
